Job Purpose/Summary:

The Director of Insurance Risk Management will plan, direct, and oversee all risk management activities conducted by the Risk and Insurance department. This role is responsible for managing insurable operational and management risks for crude oil and NGLs transportation, marketing, storage, and processing operations. Key activities include strategy development, program structuring, coverage selection, administration, program renewal, budgeting, cost allocation, claims management, loss control surveys, and providing day-to-day internal risk management consulting services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, and oversee all risk management activities conducted by the Risk and Insurance department respective to insurable operational and management risks for crude oil and NGLs transportation, marketing, storage and processing operations. Activities include strategy, program structuring, coverage selection, administration, program renewal, budgeting, cost allocation, claims management, loss control surveys and providing day-to-day internal risk management consulting services.

  • Conduct annual risk assessment discussions with executive management to identify emerging risks, material changes to organization’s risk profile and exposures, evaluate management’s current risk appetite in conjunction with current and near future industry dynamics and insurance market trends that may impact insurance renewal strategy.

  • Responsible for leading the insurance program renewal process, including strategy and oversight of the preparation of risk management presentations to underwriters; leading insurance renewal meetings with domestic and foreign insurance brokers and underwriters; negotiating proposed renewal terms, and preparing internal insurance cost allocations.

  • Presenting annual update of insurance renewal outcome to and responding to inquiries from the board’s audit committee.

  • Review and provide risk management guidance and present cost-benefit analysis of available insurance product options to executive management and to their respective department heads regarding potential risk and insurance matters associated with corporate transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures, commercial opportunities and expansion projects.

  • Review contracts for insurance compliance issues respective to business activities within the organization to identify and endeavor to mitigate insurance related contractual risk, providing recommendations as appropriate.

  • Responsible for coordination of loss control engineering surveys conducted at the organization’s various locations, including management of compliance and preparation of appropriate response to any resulting insurance recommendations, as well as sharing recommendations across the organization as applicable.

  • Oversee all insurance claim department activities, including coordination with internal safety, legal and operations groups to facilitate favorable claim reimbursement outcomes.

  • Manage insurance broker relationships with lead domestic and foreign insurance brokers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in Insurance Risk Management or a related discipline, and a minimum of 10 years prior related experience.

  • Extensive experience in risk management, insurance, and claims management within the energy sector.

  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with executive management and various departments.

  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks

  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
