Our client is adding a new role, Senior Systems Engineer - Variable Frequency Drives to their team in Sutton, MA. You'll be working on hardware from specs through design to commissioning.

This role has been covered by other resources in the company and as they continue to grow, they need an in-house expert! Is that you?

You'll work with the automation team (PLC, schematics, PMIs, cabinets) to support a strong profitable team in this billion-dollar powerhouse of a company.

Primetals Technologies, a worldwide leading engineering and manufacturer of capital equipment for the steel making industry, known for our strengths in mechanical engineering, electronics, automation, manufacturing, project management and service is hiring for the following position:Sr Systems Engineer - Drives Eng.

Location: Sutton, MA

Primetals has an immediate need in Electrics Automation Group in Sutton MA for Senior Level Systems Engineers. This position will require some domestic and international travel.

Required Education :BSEE or equivalent combination of education and experience in Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) system design.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Person will be responsible for developing / designing complex systems that integrate hardware and software which includes:

• Complex material specification.
• Schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up.
• Develops recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.
• Guides complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer for both processes and application of products to system design.

GENERAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Design and specify hardware for Variable Frequency Drives.
• Parametize and tune programs for Variable Frequency Drives for specific industrial metal technology applications.
• Identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem can be difficult or complex.
• Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from others.
• Works with immediate manager, others in the group, project manager, project team and customer during project execution.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience in drive systems.
• 5+ years of experience with demonstrated success working with medium to large Variable Frequency Drives in industrial settings.
• Detailed knowledge of specific equipment, processes, systems and facilities related to electrical engineering of steel mill equipment.
• Detailed knowledge of complex engineering principles, calculation methods, equipment design, equipment selection.
• Good team skills and ability to work effectively in large, diverse, multinational groups.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel occasionally in the US and abroad.
• Knowledge of one or more of the following drive systems: Siemens Sinamics S120, ABB ACS880, or Rockwell Powerflex
• Knowledge of how a motor works as well as being able to properly specify and select motors.

Required Travel: 30%
